Staff Accountant
Location: Bingham Farms, MI
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has an opening for a temporary (30-40 hours per week) Staff Accountant at our Bingham Farms administrative office. The Staff Accountant’s primary role is to perform various accounting functions. As this is a temporary position, benefits are not available.

The Staff Accountant’s responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to: all aspects of accounts receivable, cash receipts, month-end closing, general ledger reconciliations, performing other miscellaneous accounting functions, data entry, and working at MHS events as assigned.
A High School Diploma is required for this position; a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred. Accounting experience is also required. The ideal candidate must have strong Excel experience; experience with MS Office; customer service skills; a positive attitude; strong mathematical and analytical abilities; organizational skills; be deadline oriented with an attention to detail; be self-motivated; be able to multi-task; and be able to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.

Customer Service Representative/Animal Care Technician
Location: Rochester Hills, MI
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has an opening for a full-time Customer Service Representative/Animal Care Technician (CSR/ACT) at our Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing general information and support to the public on the phone and in person, greeting customers as they enter the facility and directing them to appropriate areas, effectively explaining procedures and protocols, screening adoption applicants, and processing adoption paperwork. The CSR/ACT is also responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the adoption center and providing direct care and maintenance to all animals, including feeding, general husbandry, and cleaning enclosures. Schedule will include both weekend days and evenings.

The CSR/ACT must maintain a professional and positive attitude and uphold the principles and beliefs of the organization at all times; focus on solving conflicts; maintain confidentiality; listen to customers without interruption; keep emotions under control; write clearly and informatively; read and interpret standard operating procedures and protocols; follow instructions; respond to management direction; take responsibility for own actions; observe safety and security procedures; and use equipment and materials properly. Basic computer skills are a must as this position requires CSR/ACT’s to perform computer data entry on a daily basis. In addition, candidates must have a friendly, welcoming demeanor and truly enjoy working with the public.

Candidates must have a High School diploma; six to nine months of excellent customer service experience is also required. Candidates must be able to perform professionally in a pressure-filled environment; feed and water animals according to schedules and established protocol; clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and yard areas; maintain facility grounds to ensure all fecal matter and debris is removed; observe animals for signs of illness and advise proper personnel accordingly; hold animals during euthanasia process; bathe animals in accordance with established guidelines; exercise animals regularly to minimize the adoption center environment stress; and complete laundry and dish washing timely and effectively.

Unlicensed Veterinary Technician
Location: Westland, MI
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has a part-time opening for an Unlicensed Veterinary Technician to directly support Veterinarians at our Berman Center veterinary center in Westland.

The Unlicensed Veterinary Technician’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: administering medications and vaccines as well as other treatments; treating outpatient and hospitalized animals; assisting in surgery, including administering and monitoring anesthesia as well as preparation and recovery of patients and maintaining surgical equipment; performing procedures such as dentals, laboratory tests, and radiographs; filling and labeling prescriptions; documenting medical records; providing client education; maintaining a clean and sanitary clinic environment; monitoring supplies; and performing administrative tasks.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED as well as previous training and experience in the veterinary field (experience in a veterinary clinic setting preferred). They must also maintain a positive work ethic and professional appearance at all times, have good communication skills, work independently with minimal supervision but also be a team player, be detail-oriented, and have basic computer skills. Supervising Veterinarian
Location: Rochester Hills, MI
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has a full-time opening for a Supervising Veterinarian at our Rochester Hills veterinary center.  MHS provides a full service hospital with a large surgical caseload and well equipped facility for diagnostics and care of animals, and Veterinarians are responsible for delivering high quality veterinary care for both internal and external clientele.  The Supervising Veterinarian will oversee the daily running of the veterinary center as well as perform Staff Veterinarian duties.  Must be willing to work over scheduled time if necessary.  

The Supervising Veterinarian’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervising veterinary center staff; assisting/advising Veterinarians regarding medical cases; overseeing training of veterinary staff and student externs; overseeing disease control in the adoption center; ensuring quality control; assisting with complaints; scheduling Veterinarians; assisting with staff meetings; examining, diagnosing, prescribing, and treating animals; and performing surgeries.

Candidates must hold a DVM license in the State of Michigan, hold or be eligible for a state controlled license, hold or be eligible to hold a DEA license, and hold or be eligible to hold accreditation from the USDA.  They must also have a minimum of three years of experience in a veterinary clinical setting, and previous management experience is helpful.  They must have a positive work ethic, a professional appearance, good communication and conflict resolution skills, a high level of customer service, good time management skills, good decision making skills, be detail oriented and organized, be able to multitask, be able to work independently as well as part of a team, and have basic computer skills. 

Pay is commensurate with experience.  Employees receive Paid Time Off, a 403(b) salary deferral plan, and employee discounts.  Full time employees are eligible for health, dental, and prescription coverage as well as life and disability insurance.  Veterinarians also receive a continuing education allowance and a uniform allowance.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED; Receptionist experience and experience working with animals are preferred. Veterinary Assistant
Location: Rochester Hills, MI
The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) has a full-time opening for a Veterinary Assistant at our Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care. The Veterinary Assistant will provide support for the Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians in a variety of animal health care and animal husbandry duties including examination, treatment, and surgery. Schedule will include evenings, weekdays, and weekends.

The Veterinary Assistant’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting with restraint and treatment of animals; administering vaccines, subcutaneous fluids, and medications; performing routine laboratory duties including obtaining lab specimens; caring for hospitalized animals; filling prescriptions; assisting with humane euthanasia; documenting medical records; providing client education; cleaning including sanitizing cages and equipment; re-stocking; completing Receptionist duties; and performing other tasks as requested.

The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma or GED; experience in a previous veterinary clinical setting is preferred. Also, basic computer skills are required, and knowledge of Cornerstone software is a plus.
